Wolfpack Football to State Finals
The Wolfpack played in the State Tournament Class 4A Semifinals against the Waseca Bluejays on Thursday evening, November 15th, at US Bank Stadium.
It was a close game leaving fans from both teams on the edge of their seats the majority of the time.
At the end of the 1st quarter, the game was scoreless. The Wolfpack didn’t waste any time in the second quarter with junior Craig McDonald getting a touchdown after catching a pass from junior Jalen Suggs. The Bluejays came back with a touchdown of their own a few minutes later. With 30 seconds remaining in the first half, junior Theo Crosby made a 31-yard field goal bringing the Wolfpack to the lead at the end of the first half with a score of 10-7.
The Bluejays scored a touchdown and two-point conversion at the start of the 3rd quarter giving them their first lead of the game, 15-10, which they held for the remainder of the quarter.
With 8 minutes remaining in the game, senior Siegel Howard scored a touchdown for the Wolfpack. There were a few tense minutes while the Wolfpack held a one-point lead (16-15). During this time, the Wolfpack and Bluejays both fought to try and take control of the game and gain momentum.
The turning point for the game came shortly after the Wolfpack had their punt blocked by Waseca. On Waseca’s next play, senior Andrew Mollison made a game-changing interception. This was followed by a successful 53-yard pass by Jalen Suggs to junior Kaden Johnson giving the Wolfpack a 1st down at their 15-yard line. Siegel Howard scored his second touchdown of the game with 4:55 remaining in the game.
The Wolfpack pulled away with an exciting win in this semi-final game. The final score was 23-15.
The Wolfpack will play in the State Tournament Class 4A Finals on Friday, November 23rd at 4:00pm at US Bank Stadium. They will play the winners of today’s St. Paul Johnson vs. Willmar semi-final game.
